Ringing in the stilton

TUESDAY 7PM: A band of bell ringers are to visit Long Clawson next Thursday (July 31) to ring in celebration of stilton cheese.
The ringers, based in Hereford, will attempt to ring a newly composed pattern known as a method, called Stilton Surprise Major.
And they've chosen St Remigius Church for their performance as it's home to Long Clawson Diary and has eight bells.
A spokesperson for the dairy said: "This is a fantastic celebration of stilton cheese, which has been made in Long Clawson for almost 100 years.
"The fact that bell ringers are to celebrate this cheese is particularly appropriate since it was first sold in The Bell Inn in Stilton".
The performance, which will start at 3pm, will be in the form of a peal, which will take about three hours to complete.
It will be clearly audible from close to the church, but the louvres in the tower windows will be closed so the volume of noise will not inconvenience those people living in the nearby properties.
