SATURDAY 11am: Kindhearted Redmile Primary School pupils had plenty of fun during their harvest festival.
This year in a break from tradition the service took place at Plungar Village Hall instead of St Peter's Church, as the church was closed for repair work to the roof.
Old friend Gus - the very naughty puppet - also made a return along with his owner David, helping the children bring to life the parable of The Sower and his seeds.
Headteacher Julie Hopkins said: "All children had the opportunity of working with the puppets during the morning, but for the festival, class two used them to tell the story. Class one performed a lovely dance about how a seed grows with the warmth from the sun and a drink from the rain and class three played music and performed a rap about the givers and takers of the world.
"Will and Katie read out their beautiful prayers and Mrs Wells, Reader for the Benefice, completed the service with a blessing and prayer about being thankful for all the things we have."
She added: "Our year sixes did a great job of leading us through the service with the help of David and the hindrance of Gus! and it was obvious how much the children and parents enjoyed it.
"The children made harvest boxes which were on display and 38 boxes were delivered to Dove Cottage Hospice the next day. A collection was taken during the final hymn, 'Lord of the Harvest' which raised £36 towards St Peter's roof fund. Many thanks to everyone who contributed."
