SATURDAY NOON: The cost of rail travel for Melton commuters and shoppers has gone up.
Crosscountry operates all services out of Melton and has increased fares by up to 11 per cent.
A spokesman for the firm said: "The rise reflects the investment we have made across our network including more trains, seats, luggage space and an improved website."
There are two types of price increase. Regulated fares, which includes season tickets and off-peak travel, will rise on average by six per cent, while unregulated fares, which include leisure and advance purchases, will go up by 11 per cent.
A standard return ticket from Melton to Leicester which can be used at any time of day has gone up by nine per cent to £7.20, up from £6.60.
