FRIDAY 11AM: There has been a further big cat sighting in the area.
Melton damp proofer Mark Bone (46) was driving back from Oakham on Friday when he saw what he described as a 'large black panther'.

He said: "I was about two miles from Burton Lazars when, at about 2.45pm, I saw the panther leap out on to the road and swoop up a road kill pheasant in its jaws.

"The lead car was so close to the panther it had to swerve round it to avoid a collision.

"The panther was jet black in colour and had a long curly tail. It was very exciting to experience first-hand that previous panther sightings are far from myth and are actually very real."

There have been numerous big cat sightings in the area over the years.
