THURSDAY 2PM: Supermarket giant Tesco is coming to Syston, moving into the town's former Somerfield store which closed on Saturday.
A Tesco spokesman said the new store, predominantly food orientated, was planned to open in mid April.
He said: "We're going to start converting the premises shortly. All the previous staff will transfer across and we think maybe up to 20 additional jobs will be created."
Sue Smith, chairwoman of the Syston District Chamber of Trade, said: "I think it's very positive and encouraging that a big name like Tesco is coming to Syston.
"It's good that we're not losing jobs and we're not going to have a large empty unit on the main road.
"Initially because it's going to be something new which people will want to investigate it will hopefully bring new shoppers to Syston.
"While they're travelling in or out they will hopefully have a look around and see what else Syston has to offer."
