THURSDAY 11.30AM: A family were evacuated from their home overnight and a 200-yard safety cordon placed around the property after an acetylene tank caught fire.
The blaze, at Red Lodge Farm, Hoby Road, Asfordby, started at around 11am last Wednesday.

John and Louise Young and their four-year-old twins were out at the time of the fire but were forced to stay with relatives while firefighters sprayed water on the hot tank throughout the day and overnight.

According to incident commander Phil Batten, of Melton fire station, a tank in the back of a van was involved in the fire, adding that fumes in the vehicle ignited when the acetylene torch was sparked up.

The fire was extinguished but the crew then had to cool it for 24 hours and place a cordon around the scene. This was lifted and the road reopened the following day.

The tank belonged to a welder, who has not been named, who was carrying out work at the farm.
