TUESDAY 4.30pm: Children inspired by Great Britain's cycling medals at the Olympics are being encouraged to dust off their saddles and cycle to school for the start of the new term.
The Great Britain team won 14 cycling medals in China - including eight gold.

Leicestershire County Council's road safety and travel awareness team provides children with bicycle safety training through its Bike4Life course.

Kevin Feltham, Cabinet support member for highways and transportation, said: "The number of children cycling to school has shown a steady rise in recent years, but often it takes something like the big success at the Olympics to get people on their bikes.

"We hope that at the start of the new term on Thursday, children and their parents might think about arriving at the school gate on two wheels, instead of four."

Bike4Life has recently been awarded national Bikeability Status by the Cycle Standards Training Board.
