A community group is aiming to bring the town together with a series of actitivites.
It is to test the water with a 1.5km children's fun run on land near the Melton Defence Animal Centre on Saturday, September 14 from noon. There will be age categories of 7 to 9, 9 to 12, 12 to 14 and 14 to 16, but parents can also join in if they wish.

The event has been organised by members of Residents Action Group Egerton and it is hoped it will bebe the first community event of many for Melton.

Co-organiser Ken Snow said: "The proceeds will go to pay for staging the event. We are not doing it as a charity fundraiser, but to bring people together.

"However, if any money is left over it will go to a local charity."
The group has received support from the business community, including Mars, Samworth Brothers and Jeakins Weir, while the DAC is helping mark out the route.

Entrants can register on the day, at £1 each, or contact Ken for more details on (01664) 566988 or 07910 847965.
