THURSDAY NOON: Hollywood beckons for Melton-born dancer Charlie Bruce (19) after being crowned Britain's favourite dancer on Saturday night.
Millions tuned in to watch the former Sherard Primary School pupil, along with fellow finalists Lizzie Gough and Tommy Franzen, perform six routines in the grand final of BBC1 show So You Think You Can Dance.
After a gruelling audition and six live shows it was finally time for presenter Cat Deeley to open the envelope and announce who had won the life-changing prize of £100,000 and the chance to perform in Hollywood on the US version of the show - showing off their talent to millions of people there.
On hearing her name Charlie burst into tears, saying: "I'm absolutely speechless. Thank you so much, I did it, I did it. I will never forget this, it has been amazing."
Charlie is now set to perform on the US show which attracts audiences of more than 20 million people.
It's not yet known when she will be performing. Producers are currently doing auditions.
Speaking after her win Charlie, who used to work in a shoe shop, said: "I'm not sure yet what's going to happen but I'm so excited. I'm going to give some of the money to my mum and dad to say thank you for all the training they have helped me with."
Charlie's mum Sally, who used to work for the Melton Times as a sales representative, was in the audience cheering her on on Saturday night along with other proud family members.
She described the moment her daughter's name was about to be read out as 'heart-stopping'.
She added: "The atmosphere was electric. The moment that got to me the most was hearing the envelope click open before the winner was announced. That four or five seconds of waiting felt like an hour.
"Charlie always said it wasn't the money she really wanted it was the opportunity to go and perform in America.
"Her ultimate ambition is to be in something like a singing girl group. She's also wanted to play Roxie Hart in Chicago. If she got the opportunity to do something like that it would be fantastic.
"The next six months are going to be really exciting for Charlie. She's pretty shattered but she's having an absolute ball. If her schedule allows her she's hoping to come back home for a few days next week."
