MONDAY 1.30PM: In what was possibly the worst weekend of the year weather wise, three Melton men joined six others from around Leicestershire to cycle coast to coast for charity.
The group, including Paul Birch (second left), Chris Genes (fourth left) and Nick Steans (centre), set off from Gretna and followed the the route of Hadrians Wall across Northumberland to Whitley Bay on the North Sea.
Mr Genes, a leading light with Stilton Striders, said: "From the first climb conditions were difficult with heavy driving rain, a strong headwind and numerous flooded roads to contend with which made it a really hard slog.
"The weather improved slightly on day two and even though it proved a challenging event the sponsorhip being raised for our chosen charity made it worthwhile."
The charity, aptly enough, is Riders for Health which provides motorbikes and off-road cycles to developing countires to assist in the distrubution of desperately needed medical supplies to the more romote and inaccessible areas.
