SATURDAY 10am: Greenfingered volunteers are needed to help make Melton more beautiful.
The Melton in Bloom group is running regular work sessions to make the town more attractive ready for a competition in summer.

Last year it won a silver medal and is aiming to improve on last year's performance but needs budding gardeners to help.

Chairman Margaret Pearson said: "Melton is a long way off gold, you need what we call bowling green lawns everywhere. But it would be great to get a higher mark than last year. We are aiming for more colour so we've gone for a rainbow theme. We've spruced up the beds round the church and next we're doing some areas of King Street, Melton Country Park and Gretton Court."

The group meets every Tuesday evening on an entirely voluntary basis and is currently working in Gretton Court around a water feature funded by Mars.

For more information contact Margaret Pearson on (01664) 500267.
