A prowling big black cat similar to a panther has been spotted in Old Dalby.
Daniel Davies saw the big cat cross the road near the school early on Friday, August 31.

He said: "I've heard people talking about big cats before and thought it was a load of rubbish. But then I was driving home I saw this large black cat with a really long tail walking across the road.

"I would say it was waist height and was prowling round."

It has been a long time since a large cat has been spotted in this part of the county, but there have been so many reports of sightings south east of Leicester, gamekeepers have set up night cameras.

Knossington's David Spencer, of Leicestershire and Rutland Panther Watch, said: "I personally believe they are going round on a circular track with Melton on the north east of the circuit. They then go past Asfordby towards the Wreake Valley and Birstall."

Anyone who spots a big cat should record it with Mr Spencer on (01664) 454218.
