FRIDAY NOON: A loving
daughter is to hold a fundraising event in memory of her father, Peter 'Bruce' Newton, a dedicated servant of local football.
Bernadette Tinsley is organising an aquafit event at Waterfield Leisure Pools in Dalby Road, Melton, in aid of the intensive care unit at Lincoln County Hospital.

It will take place on Saturday, May 31, from 5pm to 6pm and will feature the Waterfield lifeguards and swimming teachers. Entry to take part is £5 while spectators will be invited to make a donation.

Bernie said: "It's going to be a fun class with disco music and there's a fantastic disco, too, with champagne, meals out, swimming lessons and gym sessions up for grabs.

"Dad was so well known in local footballing circles as a referee and was the kind of person who would anything for anyone. This is just my way of paying tribute to a wonderful man."

Mr Newton, known to many players and managers as The Book, was registered with the county FA for more than 30 years, refereeing into his 70s.

To book your place call (01664) 563550 or pop into reception at the swimming baths.
