Belinda Charles' daughter Laura was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare disease which progressively blocks the bile ducts in the liver, leading to irreversible liver damage. She died in 1990 aged just one.
The Samworth Brothers charity challeng
e will see up to 85 teams competing against each other, in a gruelling 12-hour challenge.
Belinda will join forces with Paul Rose, Mark Pick and Steven Banfield from Melton Foods to walk, canoe and cycle a total of 65km in aid of the Children's Liver Disease foundation (CLDF).
She said: "I'm supporting CLDF as they are the leading charity funding research into these diseases.
"And with two children diagnosed each day, which is higher than the
incidence of childhood leukaemia, the research is so important."
Belinda's team is called 'Melton Foods 2 – Yellow Alert,' and has been training hard for the event, being held as Coniston Water.
Belinda said: "It is a serious challenge. Training has certainly been tough and I hope the people of my home town can get behind us and support in any way they can."
The winning team of the challenge will receive £1,200 for their chosen charity, with £260,000 being raised the last time the event took place, in 2007.
