WEDNESDAY: Unwanted Melton school sweatshirts and polo shirts have found proud new owners thousands of miles away in Kenya.
Following the reorganisation of secondary school education and the switch to blazers Debbie Dziura, of Kidzone in Burton Street, had about 300 surplus items.

She contacted King Edward VII School and it put her in touch with the Kenya Aid Foundation and Fort Smith Education Trust in Nairobi and the clothing was distributed to schools on the outskirts of the city in the Kangemi Uthiru slums.

Debbie said: "I received a thank you letter and this photo of smiling children proudly wearing their new uniform.

"My husband Robert was born in East Africa and we've seen for ourselves how poor the children are but also how keen they are to go to school and learn."
