FRIDAY 11.30AM: Melton is expected to be choked with traffic at the weekend when a main road is closed.
The A1 at Colsterworth will be shut from 8pm on Saturday to 10am on Sunday for bridge repairs and chairman of Melton Local Highway Forum Peter Roffey is warning of problems for the town.

He said: "Last year when the A1 northbound was closed to all traffic the town centre was gridlocked from around 8.30pm until past midnight.

"The closure this Saturday evening overnight Sunday morning could be even more chaotic since it is a total closure of the A1 with diverted traffic flowing both ways through the town."

But the A1 could be closed up until noon on the Sunday if there are problems.

Northbound traffic will leave the A1 at the A606, just north of Stamford, via Melton, and rejoin the A1 via the A607 near to Grantham.

Southbound traffic will have to leave the A1 at the A607 through Melton and join the A1 via the A606 just north of Stamford.

The roundabout at Colsterworth will stay open so traffic can cross from the B676 to the A161.

The police have been asked to assist with keeping Melton flowing.
