VIDEO THURSDAY 1.30PM: Hundreds of paintings and drawings feature in the curtain-raising exhibition to Melton's new town centre art gallery.
Melton Mowbray Art Group is holding its annual exhibition in the King Street centre, featuring oils, pastels and watercolours.

The new gallery is in the building used by the former Tourist Information Centre which closed at the end of September.

A partnership between gallery organiser Martin Putnam, the art group and Melton Council has allowed the building to be run as an art and cultural centre on a trial basis.

If popular with the public, the gallery arrangement will become permanent in the new year.

Art group Chairman Judy Wilkinson said: "It's a fantastic opportunity, all artists like to show off their work and there's a lot of talent around the area."

The exhibition runs until Christmas Eve. Photography, sculpture and school exhibitions are likely to feature at the new gallery in future.

Melton Shopmobility, hiring mobility equipment to the elderly and infirm, is still based in the King Street building while it continues a search for a home of its own.
