VIDEO: MONDAY 11AM: Pupils from St Francis Primary School will be singing at the Royal Albert Hall in London this week.
A 20-strong choir - eight boys and 10 girls - will be joining a massed choir from Leicestershire schools who will be singing at Music for Youth's School Prom.

More than 3,000 inspiring young musicians come together to celebrate Britain's impressive musical talent today, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Melton youngsters will be taking to the stage towards the end of the Tuesday concert.

They will be singing five songs from Food With Attitude, which was commissioned from composer Alan Simmons when Leicestershire education department was invited in July to contribute to this year's prom.

Schools across the county have been busy rehearsing since the start of term and teachers Miranda Willder and Glenys Cox have been putting the St Francis youngsters through their paces once a week.

She said: "The piece the children are singing will be 12 minutes long and features five of the 10 songs in Food With attitude. The massed choir of 520 voices from schools in Leicester and the county will be complementd by a team of 55 dancers, some of whom are from Melton, too.

"The message of the piece is about healthy eating and we will all be be wearing special T-shirts. The proms are being compered by Richard Stillgoe, Howard Goodall and Classic FM's Lisa Duncombe and everyone is really excited and can't wait for the bus to arrive at 8.30 on Tuesday."

The choir and Mrs Willder and Mrs Cox have already attended two joint rehearsals with the choirs from schools in Hallaton and Billesdon and last Monday there was a complete runthrough at De Montfort Hall with Sophie Pascall from Leicestershire Arts conducting the performance.

Added Mrs willder: " St Francis was lucky to be invited to join this wonderful project. It's a great honour to sing at the Royal Albert Hall and will provide wonderful memories for all taking part."

The same choir will be singing at the Lord Mayor of Leicester's carol concert in De Montfort Hall on Monday, December 3, and will be joined by the remainder of the 40-strong St Francis choir to sing in the Menphy's carol concert at de Montfort Hall on Friday, December 7. The whol school choir will then singing in Leicester Cathedral with the Leicester Bach choir on Saturday, December 15.
