Just under 40 people visited the three and a quarter acre oasis which has beautiful blue cedar and tulip trees, an original bog garden and pond, and a large vegetable plot.

Owner Alison Blythe said: “Alot of people came from Leicester this time, but it was nice to see some new faces from Melton as well.

“Visitors were able to taste our homemade stew and dumplings and gardner Christina Moulton led guided tours.

“This was the first time we’ve opened to the public at this time of year and we’ll definitely be doing it again.”

Entrance fees and the sale of refreshments were donated to the National Gardens Scheme.

Tresillian House is holding a number of interesting workshops for people to attend during the run up to Christmas.

Wreath making will held on Wednesday, December 7, Christmas decoration designing will be organised for Saturday, December 10 and there will be Orchid talks in the new year, Saturday, January 28. For details call (01664)501125..
