Someone in the Melton and Charnwood area has missed out on a £100,000 windfall.

The National Lottery has announced that a winning ticket dating back to last summer has remained unclaimed.

Tickets expire after 180 days and no-one came forward despite a desperate appeal for locate the winner by Thursday.

The money will now be used to fund lottery projects across the UK.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery said: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money. To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

He added: “We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out.”

The ticket was bought as part of a special draw to celebrate Team GB’s medal-winning Rio Olympians.
