Members call time on flower society

ORGANISERS of an annual flower show have decided to disband after existing for close to half-a-century.

Members decided to close Melton Mowbray and District Chrysanthemum and Dhalia Society at their latest meeting, at Asfordby village hall.

Dwindling membership and support for the group, together with the spiralling cost of keeping its activities going were cited as the main reasons.

The decision was taken after lengthy deliberation and with great sadness after discussions had taken place about the Melton society’s 44th annual September show.

The organisation’s affiliation to the National Chrysanthemum Society, the National Dhalia Society and the National Vegetable Society end on December 31 this year.

When that deadlines elapses, members have decided to calculate the society’s assets and donate them to local charities and needy causes.
