AUDIO SLIDESHOW: Melton Country Fair made a triumphant
return after a three-year absence with organisers promising to build on the event in 2010.
It is estimated the event, in the town parks, attracted more than 5,000 people who were treated to a full day of family fun.
The fair showcased the borough's local food and drink, arts, crafts and music with the added attractions of a green and growing area, dog show, Viking encampment, rare breeds, terrier racing, archery and more.
Fair coordinator Sallie Hooper, of Leicestershire Food Links, said: "The weather was magnificent and the day was too. All those who put on the show really enjoyed it and we hope all the visitors had just as much fun.
"There were lots of highlights, from the pipe band, the green and growing area, the dog show, and the food and craft demonstrations and we had a dramatic climax with a full scale Viking battle in the
performance ring.
"It has given us confidence for the future. This event had a four month turnaround but we now have 12 months to plan for next year and with more sponsorship we will be able to put on more entertainment and events.
"The only disappointment was that our steam engine broke down so couldn't appear but Melton Country Fair is now back on the
calendar.
"We have made a start and would welcome feedback and the involvement of more community organisations to help us build on this for 2010."
