A SPECIAL one-off variety show is coming to Melton Theatre in October as a fundraiser for next year's Special Olympics in Leicester.
Tickets have gone on sale for One Special Night which takes place on Saturday, October 4 and promises a night of foot-tapping music.
Award-winning Indian dancers will set things off before Allan Jay, direct from his Blackpool show, performs a set of love songs, accompanied by accomplished pianist Paul Frankish who has played for stars such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Elaine Paige and Michael Ball.
Leicester's Phill Voss performs songs from the shows, while Melton's very own jazz ensemble Happy Jazz turn on the style.
Tribute act The Up Beatles, featuring BBC Radio Leicester's Tony Wadsworth, roll back the years to the swinging Sixties before top-rated Cliff Richard tribute Cliff As If (Aka Will Chandler) will play hits from the Peter Pan of Pop.
Compere for the evening will be BBC Radio Leicester's Julie Mayer.
The show is to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics East Midlands and is the first of many events in the coming months.
Leicester City is host to the National Summer Games in 2009 and will be one of the biggest sporting events in the country. Melton has strong links to the organisation with tennis player Tom Styles and table tennis player Jeffrey Jarvis both picking up gold medals at last year's Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai.
Tom, who also won the BBC East Midlands Disabled Personality of the Year and is a Special Olympics ambassador, will celebrate his 21st birthday that evening.
Tickets for the night, organised by Music Styles, cost £14 and are available from Melton Theatre box office on (01664) 851111 and Music Styles on 07877 963868 or (01664) 851722.
