MONDAY sees the 25th anniversary of Old Dalby Day – and it promises to be one of the best yet.
Among the highlights are the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight , a vintage and classic vehicle display, a horticultural show, craft stalls and street markets. There will also be arena events on the village green, including the Tally Ho Band, the Kiveton Katapultz Flyball Display, the JRCS Falconry Display and a pet show.

Also taking part in the fun will be local fundraiser Howard Brooks, who raises money for fellow sufferers of Parkinson's disease and is renowned for his outrageous fancy dress. This year, he will be all dolled up as country legend Dolly Parton while running a bric-a-brac stall in Chapel Lane, selling everything from old records to a swinging hammock. Howard will also be raising money for Long Clawson Surgery.
He said: "Hopefully it will be a fine day and a successful day for all the people who are manning stalls for their various charities.
"If anybody would like to donate anything to my stall I would be very grateful. And if you can spare an hour to help me out on the day, call me on (01664) 822576."
Old Dalby Day began in 1984 as a way of raising money to purchase the old school as the village hall, and once that was completed, the event continued to run to benefit the whole parish.

Last year the charity handed out £4,000 in grants for village organisations. Much of the money raised this year will come from a raffle, with the top prize being holiday vouchers worth £250.

Zena Stansbie, of the Old Dalby Day committee, said: "Old Dalby Day is different to other village fetes because we don't just raise money for the church. Individual stall-holders retain the money they raise for their own charities and causes."

Mrs Stansbie added that the event has grown in size with each year. "People come down from various parts of the country to visit and this year we expect to attract about 4,000."

* For more information about the event, call Old Dalby Day acting chairman John Lincoln on (01664) 822015.
