Prize shortlisting boosts talented artist’s career
TALENTED artist Ben Hendy missed out on a top award but his career received a welcome boost in the aftermath of being shortlisted for it.
Ben, a former pupil of King Edward VII Upper School in Melton, picked up one of the £1,000 runner-up prizes offered by the prestigious Threadneedle Prize.
Ben Greener won the £30,000 first prize for his sculpture of a pair of feet made from wood, canvas, tea and coffee.
But the Melton artist won accolades for his life-sized linocut print depicting himself and titled ‘Self Portrait’.
And his father, Bob, said Ben’s career had received a huge boost on the back of his recognition in this year’s Threadneedle Prize event, which culminated in a presentation evening dinner.
Bob Hendy said: “Ben managed to sell his linoman print to one of the top men from Threadneedle Investments for hanging in his Prague residence and he was invited to dinner with him at The Arts Club in Mayfair.
“Overall Ben has received good publicity from his linoman which will hopefully assist him in the future, gaining him more work and making him good contacts within the industry.”
Ben was one of only six artists to be shortlisted for the prize from the 4,000 entrants.
The winner was decided by votes cast by members of the public visiting the Threadneedle exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
