MELTON Fire Station is organising a recruitment drive to hire more on-call firefighters.

On-call firefighters do exactly the same work as full-time firefighters but they also have a day job.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our main requirement when recruiting on-call firefighters is that they work or live within four minutes of the fire station in Nottingham Road.”

Keith Trowell, station manager at Melton Fire and Rescue Station, said: “If you want to combine an exciting and rewarding contribution to your community alongside the challenges of your regular job, then this is the career for you.

“Responding to emergency calls is only part of what our on-call firefighters do.

“They face all kinds of challenges from floods to road traffic accidents and they also inform the community about fire safety prevention.”

If you are interested in finding out more, a training session will be held on-site at the new Melton Fire Station, which is currently being erected and is due to be completed by May, on Sunday, from 10am-midday.

Alternatively regular training nights are held on the Nottingham Road site every Wednesday evening and anyone interested can join the sessions from 7pm onwards.
