New netball court for community

TO coincide with the revival of netball in Melton - as reported in last week’s Melton Times - the Town Estate has come forward with plans to convert a tennis court in Wilton Park into a netball court.

Following the launch of Back to Netball sessions at Long Field Academy on Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm, John Southerington, Town Estate feoffee, has offered to set up the court in the park, which will be accessible for about 52 weeks of the year.

Dinah Hickling, senior townwarden, said: “The idea is to convert one of the tennis courts into a multi- purpose, netball come tennis court.

“We have already ordered the equipment needed, we are planning to pressure wash the court and paint on markings as well as erect netball posts.

“If interest proves popular we may also resurface the area, the estimated cost of which will be about £26,000.”
