‘Leave the lights on’ say police
Police leaflets aim to deter burglars
LIGHT bulb-shaped leaflets, which urge homeowners to leave lights on when they go out to deter burglars, are being handed out as part of a police campaign.
The leaflet says: ‘No lights on! If we think no one is home, so could burglars.’
Police Community Support Officers and volunteers will be leafletting homes in the borough throughout the winter months.
House burglaries across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are at a thirteen year low but year to date figures are showing a small increase of eight per cent, which is 160 offences more than this time last year.
Detective Chief Inspector Rich Ward, who is leading the operation, said; “We are aware that we are experiencing a small increase in burglaries.
“We have a team of officers who are dedicated to tackling burglary but also need the public to help by keeping their property safe and reporting suspicious activity to us.”
