A BRAVE Melton woman who tragically lost her mum and mother-in-law to cancer last year has shaved off her blonde locks to raise funds in their memory.

Claire Terry (39) of Greaves Avenue smashed her fundraising target of £250 by taking the chop at Salvo’s Hair Design in Nottingham Street on Friday.

Claire, who works at Leisureland amusements arcade in Nottingham Street, raised £430 for cancer campaign Stand Up To Cancer, which is supported by Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK, which aired on television on Friday evening.

She lost her mum Shirley Munro, aged 60, to a brain tumour in November, her mother-in-law Margaret Terry also died of cancer in July last year.

Claire said: “It was over in 10 minutes and felt really weird at first but I’m really pleased I did it.

“I sent a picture of my shaved head to my dad John and he told me that I was very brave.”

Messages of support on Claire’s Justgiving fundraising website have included, ‘your mums would be proud of you baldie’ and ‘you are an inspiration’.

Claire is continuing to fundraise, over the next two weeks, by leaving collection buckets at Gracies sandwich bar in Market Place, Hollingshead wine bar and grill in Nottingham Street and Caf Caf in The Mall.
