FIREFIGHTERS were out in force in Melton last week to raise awareness of the dangers of using fireworks on Bonfire Night (November 5).

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is urging residents to leave firework displays to professionals and attend officially-organised bonfires and fireworks events.

Melton firefighters were handing out leaflets to spread the message in Market Place on Friday.

Neil Castledine, crew manager, said: “Fireworks and bonfires can ruin lives in an instant if things go wrong.

“By going to an official event, families and friends can enjoy the fun of Bonfire Night with better value for money and without the risks involved in doing it yourself.”
