1,000 new homes objections dominate meeting

OBJECTIONS over Melton Council’s vision for 1,000 new homes to the north of the town dominated a residents meeting on Tuesday.

About 40 Newport Ward residents attended the meeting at Brownlow Primary School, organised by councillor Matthew O’Callaghan.

Dr O’Callaghan said: “There wasn’t any positive reaction to Melton Council’s Core Strategy and in particular its plans for a large scale housing development to the north of Melton.

“A lot of residents raised their concerns and my aim is to pass on their objections to the government inspector when the issue goes before a public hearing in January.

Concerns were also raised about the need for more leisure facilities for young people in Newport Ward and the need for a community centre.
